58th edition of one of Italy's most spectacular historical reenactment festivals, its origins tracing to a Community Council decree from the late 1400s commemorating a real 1489 battle, when Soriano's residents repelled an attempted conquest of their castle by the lord of neighboring Vignanello. Spanning three weekends, a historic procession of over 500 costumed performers, jousting and archery contests between the town's four rioni, and the national 'Vojola d'Oro' (golden chestnut) award presented to notable public figures, close around chestnut-based taverns, roasted chestnuts, and a giant ceremonial chestnut-burr sculpture — the festival draws over 40,000 visitors.
