Founded in 1978 by a group of young people from Caria, this festival for sujaca — a white bean grown on the Monte Poro plateau — is now organized by Associazione Culturale Cheria, over 80 volunteers strong. Individual Caria families spend the afternoon of August 6th slow-cooking their own pots of beans in terracotta 'pignate' over wood fire, then bring them to the village square to be served. In 2025, the 45th edition drew an estimated 20,000 visitors to a village of just over 700 residents, closing with the shared regional 'Ballo dei Giganti' and 'camejuzzu i focu' fire-dance traditions.
