Born in 1952 when a local lawyer fried fresh fish in the piazza to welcome tourists arriving by steamship, Camogli's fish festival has grown around one genuinely record-setting object: a 2.6-tonne stainless-steel frying pan, four metres across with a six-metre handle, that's fried tonnes of fish in Piazza Colombo every year since 2001. Free to eat, funded entirely by a sponsor's 3,000 litres of oil, and recognised by the Region as one of Liguria's 102 official 'authentic events'.
